The Box Tree Moth: An Invasive Species Severely Threatening Buxus Natural Formation in NW Italy

چکیده
(1) The box tree moth (BTM), Cydalima perspectalis Walker, represents one of the recent examples exotic insect pests native to Asia accidentally introduced in Europe by nursery trade. In Europe, BTM develops on Buxus sempervirens L., causing significant damage ornamental and natural plants. (2) Basic aspects biology were investigated at three sites NW Alps, where B. occurs rocky slopes, forming a protected habitat. 2019–2021, we evaluated: (i) seasonal flight activity with sex pheromone traps, (ii) fecundity effects food egg load, (iii) potential adaptation secondary host plants, (iv) recruitment enemies. (3) Our results revealed presence two generations per year. number mature eggs increased fed adults was higher females first generation. No evidence shift plants found either laboratory or conditions, no occurrence enemies recorded, except for pupa tachinid Pseudoperichaeta nigrolineata. (4) findings provide valuable information address timely plan management strategies preserve as an essential component rare forest ecosystems.

Background and purpose: Alien invasive species have been described as an outstanding global problem. Hundreds of species are intentionally and unintentionally moved worldwide and and numbers of introductions to new habitats have been accelerated all over the world due to the increasing mobility of people and goods over the past decades. Numerous alien insect species, many of them introduced onl...

This may re ̄ect an innate superiority of plants from some habitats or an escape from their enemies. Another hyp...
متن کاملFORMATION OF ATOLL GARNET IN THE ARDARA AUREOLE, NW IRELAND
The formation of atoll garnet in the Ardara aureole, NW Ireland, is discussed using the textural, chemical and Electron Backscatter Diffraction (EBSD) data. Textural evidence suggests the possibility of incipient of garnet replacement from the core. In addition, the presence of staurolite and andalusite in the core of small atoll garnets as well as the occurrence of sillimanite in the core of l...
متن کاملMechanism Underlying the Spatial Pattern Formation of Dominant Tree Species in a Natural Secondary Forest.
Studying the spatial pattern of plant species may provide significant insights into processes and mechanisms that maintain stand stability. To better understand the dynamics of naturally regenerated secondary forests, univariate and bivariate Ripley's L(r) functions were employed to evaluate intra-/interspecific relationships of four dominant tree species (Populus davidiana, Betula platyphylla,...
متن کاملRecent trends in airborne pollen for tree species in Galicia, NW Spain
The global climate change recorded over recent years may prompt changes in phenological events. The present study sought to analyse the varying impact of changes in weather conditions at different times of the year on woody-plant flowering, by analysing recent trends in airborne count for 3 pollen types abundant in Galicia belonging to the Fagales order: Alnus, which flowers in early winter; Be...
